Animal Rights

I chose to do my paper on animal rights because it's a topic I feel strongly about. I love animals and I believe they should have some rights too. I understand they are not humans but they shouldn't be tortured either. Many people ignore the fact that animals around the world are being mistreated and killed in very cruel ways. I think there needs to be something done to change it and more people need to be informed. As I was researching I found out a lot of stuff I did not know and it really helped me understand this issue better.

service learning

Service learning is very important because you are helping society and the environment. There are many types of community service projects. You can help the community by being involved in cleaning parks and recreation places or you can help people by reading to kids or being a mentor. You are not getting paid but you will be getting a big reward knowing you helped someone.Unfortunately I waited to the last minute to complete my service learning and the Humane society was all filled up. But I did complete service learning last summer in Neat stuff which is a great organization in which helps the orphanage get cloths for the upcoming school year. My experience was great and everyone was very nice and grateful. Service learning can really help and make a difference.

Hamlet

Hamlet is also a story about tragedy. Hamlet is the son of the king who his uncle killed and married his mom. Hamlet is very upset and sees the injustice that has been done and seeks for revenge. I don't really agree with revenge but in a case like this I would probably do the same. I don't think people reason when their mad and they do stuff that they later regret. I like this story because it is a very dramatic tragedy with a shocking ending.

Oedipus Rex

Oedipus Rex is a story that has lots of drama. It all starts when they go to a prophet and have their future told. The parents of Oedipus find out he will grow up to marry his mother and kill his father so they send to kill hi. Instead the messenger gives him away and he grows up in another city but returns to his home land and not knowingly marries his mother and kills his father. I feel bad for Oedipus and i don't think he had anything to do with the tragedy that ended up happening.

Phenomenal Women: Maya Angelou

I chose this poem for one of my essays because its very inspirational. This poem is about femininity and women power. She ends every stanza with phenomenal women I am which shows herself in a positive outlook. She also describes herself as not being the most beautiful women but how having a positive attitude can change every one's view. This is a great that i enjoyed.

Still I Rise: Maya Angelou

I chose still i rise as one of my poems for my essay. I think this is a great poem. It's very inspirational and very clear to understand. I like how she ends all her stanzas with "still i rise." No mater whose trying to bring her down or what incident shes in,she always tries to think of the positive. My favorite lines are You may kill me with your hatefulness,But still, like air, I'll rise. If you analyze the poem she is ignoring criticism and judgment and that's the best thing to do.

Edgar Allan poe:Tell Tale Heart

This story from Edgar Allan Poe was interesting. It was a little sickening when the girl killed the old man just because of his glass eye. All those negative thoughts were just in her head.At the end she couldn't keep the secret anymore and she gave in. She would have gotten away with the crime but the thoughts were haunting her. This shows her character as very phycho.

Raymond Carver: Cathedral

I think the story Cathedral has a good message. I liked the ending the most when Robert changes the husbands perspective of a blind man. This story had very diverse characters. They were all very different but were united at the end. In the story the wife seemed to be unhappy and as the story proceeded it gives u an answer on why she was that way. The husband seemed like an alcoholic and was very rude, and Robert was blind but was the character which seemed the most normal.

Philip Larkin: This be the verse

This poem is very different then all the other ones we have read. His language is very free. He uses a lot of slang in the writing. I enjoyed it but thought it was a little sad the way he refers to his parents. I think his perspective is coming from his childhood and the way he was raised. I think he had it very hard and that's why he doesn't want kids. I personally don't agree with him. I love my parents and they have never done anything to hurt me or ruin my life. Instead they've been loving and caring and I think that's why I would like to have four to five kids. Some adopted of course.

Linda Patan : Marks

I really enjoyed this poem.It is very funny and very true. I understand the moms perspective and I think it is a little sad how they are grading her on everyhting she does. No one wants to be judged, and especially not by the ones you love the most. I think when someone is constantly judging you it just brings you down. I really like the ending because she gives up and says shes dropping out. I think once she drops out then everyone will realize what they did and will start appreciaiting the things she does for them.
